Proudly referred to as Chicago’s “front yard,” Grant Park is among the city’s loveliest and most prominent parks. The park was named for Ulysses S. Grant, 18th president of the United States. The site of three world– class museums—the Art Institute, the Field Museum, and the Shedd Aquarium—the park, which covers about 300 acres, hosts many notable concerts and events. In November of 2008, Barack Obama used the venue to give his historic victory speech following his election as president of the United States.

Grant Park’s centerpiece, often referred to as Chicago’s “front door” is the Clarence Buckingham Memorial Fountain. The Fountain was built in 1927 to provide a monumental focal point while protecting the park’s breathtaking lakefront views. The fountain, one of the largest in the world, is one of Chicago’s most popular attractions. While in operation, every hour on the hour for 20 minutes the fountain produces a major water display, and the center jet shoots 150 feet into the air. Beginning at dusk, the water display is accompanied by a major light and music display.

Buckingham Memorial Fountain majestically lit in the dark is the centerpiece of a well–known P, Chicago’s beloved Grant Park.
